No, this isn't Deja Vu but you have more than likely been in this place before, likely! Over a year ago I stumbled across Berserk Boy during its public beta and I had praised it, along with random Beatmania IIDX puns as headlines for some reason. Since then, things have been looking up and I've even had a chance to play an updated demo a few months later with some quality of life improvements. Then? Silence. Actually, what followed was a sudden deletion of the Steam page. Those who were looking forward to a new build, like myself, would have to wait as the situation fixed itself but I come with great news straight from the developer himself, Zu!
As of right now, the official Berserk Boy Steam page is back up! Players interested in the Mega Man-style retro inspired platformer can now wishlist the game once more. Although more information will be provided by Zu as they update the page, I'm excited to see that the page itself has returned. This was an ongoing problem for over the span of several months and although I don't have more information as to what exactly happened, I understand the frustration of being at risk of losing months if not years of hard work.
Reintroducing Berserk Boy, you play as the titular character, Kei, who transforms into Berserk Boy via orbs. As humanity's fate hangs in the balance, smooth platforming gameplay inspired by a cool dude clad in blue awaits. Speaking of "cool dudes clad in blue," Tee Lopes, the composer known for Sonic Mania and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge, will also provide his talents to Berserk Boy, giving players more of that signature energetic sound to complement the six to eight hours of gameplay expected.
While a release date is still left to be determined, this post will be updated along with the official Berserk Boy announcement! I'm just simultaneously making my announcement to spread the good news. In the meantime, players who are looking for more "Mega Man" inspired gameplay can look towards these specific titles I've covered. UPDATE: Looks like we are good to go and we're looking at a 2024 date!
The first is Protodroid DeLTA, one of the four games I've mentioned that players must play halfway through 2023. Another game I don't nearly talk often about is One Step From Eden. Admittingly, this is because many others have talked about this game to the ground and for good reason. It was the first game to capture Capcom's Mega Man Battle Network gameplay while also branching into the growing Roguelike genre.
With many options already for Mega Man fans plus with the news of Berserk Boy's return, 2023 is already a fantastic year with 2024 looking to continue the festivities! Players can wishlist the game here!
